PUCK AND THE PLAYERS
By Matt Buchanan
5 female, 8 male, 2 either. (Several of the male roles can be played by girls.) Unit set. About 40 minutes.
Free adaptation of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, concentrating entirely on the antics of a hapless troupe of rustic players who stage the world's worst production of "Pyramus and Thisby" for a royal wedding. They are aided and abetted in their theatrical mayhem by the mischievous sprite, Puck, who chases them about the forest, turns one of them into a donkey, and becomes the rudest audience you've ever seen. A fun, easily approachable introduction to Shakespeare.
