Samuel Buggeln

Samuel Buggeln is the founding artistic director of Ithaca's Cherry Arts, an award-winning theatre translator and one of the US's preeminent directors of new international plays. For the Cherry, Sam has commissioned and/or produced over twenty full productions, almost all world or English-language premieres. Pre-Cherry, Sam directed numerous productions at regional theaters and extensively off- and off-off-Broadway. In NYC, his production Go-Go Kitty, GO! won Best Play at FringeNYC from among two hundred productions in that festival, and he developed countless other new plays at organizations including the Lark, NYTW, Atlantic Theater Company, Clubbed Thumb and others. For two decades, he was an Artistic Associate at NYC's Ohio and New Ohio Theatre, where he directed the Drama Desk-nominated Cressida Among the Greeks and adapted novels by Queneau and Duras. His theatre translations have gone on to productions in NYC and California and been published by Oberon, Seagull and The Mercurian. A collection of international plays premiered by The Cherry Arts is forthcoming from Methuen Drama.
