BECKY

Neat science…really neat…No denying that…solid stuff…very solid.  Grade A.   All the science is there.   It’s got great potential…really…all the potential in the world.   Now you just need to realize it.

Presentation…Jimmy…it’s all about presentation.  You got all the pieces…just need to pull them together…together in a way that tells the best story…draw out the narrative…really bring it home to your audience.

For sure.  Absolutely…for sure.  Take the one I did…Me and Gwen…the one we did last year.

No…didn’t win.  Not a strong concept, really.  Volcanoes.  It’s been done…done to death…the simulation, with the baking powder and vinegar and fake paper mache mountain and all.  The science was kinda commonplace…nothing special.  But Mr. Murray took us aside…when the winners were being announced…took us aside and told us he’d never seen the concept presented so well…the smoke…red dye and paste to make it look just like lava…gripping presentation…that’s what he said…flair for the dramatic…a real flair.  That’s what he told us.

Naw…the other kids…he said…the others with volcano projects wouldn’t understand…wouldn’t get it…if we were winning and they weren’t…weren’t even getting very high grades and all.  It was the science…just the underlying science…that held the project back…kept us from winning.
