Licensing a play with YouthPLAYS is fast, easy and low-stress. Here's what to do:
Go to the play's dedicated page on our website. Feel free to use the search function if necessary.
Option 1: Purchase sufficient hard copies (i.e., Printed Scripts) for your cast and crew (remember, these may not legally be copied).
Option 2: Purchase either a Production PDF + Copy license or a Classroom PDF + Copy license. Purchase the Production PDF + Copy License if you're just producing the play. Purchase the Classroom PDF + Copy License if you're studying it in class but will also be producing it in front of an audience.
Option 3: Purchase some combination of the above. Some groups may want a copy license for flexibility but also a few printed scripts.

Note that some plays are only available digitally, and for musicals, you must purchase one of the copy license options, as the copy license comes with the full score.
Purchase one Performance Royalty for each time the play will be produced in the presence of an audience outside of the cast and crew (or outside of your closed classroom). This includes invited dress rehearsals, in-school performances, etc. Royalties are required regardless of whether admission is charged.
A Streaming/Video Package. If you wish to record your production, stream the show (either live or prerecorded and shown at a specific time) or make the performance(s) accessible on-demand, you'll need to purchase one of our streaming/video packages. Full details about each of the packages are in our Streaming Guide.
Musical Tracks. Some musicals (and occasionally a play with music) will have musical tracks available; if they are, they will appear on the play's page with the rest of the items for purchase. You are welcome, however, to forego purchasing tracks and use live musicians.
Once you've selected all of the necessary/optional items, it's time to check out. You'll either login to your existing YouthPLAYS account or be prompted to create one.
We accept credit/debit, PayPal, purchase orders (from US-based institutions) and checks (in US dollars). There's also a “Quote” option for customers who first need to generate a quote to obtain a purchase order. If you're in a hurry, remember that the “check” method of payment will only be approved once payment is received, so you'll want to use another method.
Once you place your order, we'll review it within one business day. Assuming everything is in order, we'll approve it and you'll receive an email with your performance license and any digital materials (e.g., a copyable PDF script and/or musical tracks). Those digital materials will also be available by logging into your account on our website (e.g., if you didn't receive our email). If you ordered printed scripts, that order will be sent to our drop-shipper for fulfillment.
And that's it. Now it's time to break a leg!
