Dramedy. 50-60 minutes. 5 females, 2 males. Suitable for middle school and older.
Commissioned and produced by Honolulu Theatre for Youth, Honolulu, Hawai'i, with a subsequent production at Hudson Theatre (New York, NY).
A young boy moves from Hawaii to suburban California only to find that his love for the sacred rites of hula doesn't transfer quite as easily. As KalÄ struggles to find his way in this new life, he wonders where his old culture fits in—and how he can make both the old and the new fit together. Maybe the answer lies in discovering what's most important in life.
"This is one of Honolulu Theatre for Youth's best productions since The Matsuyama Mirror (also written by Houston)... The real life traditions...of hula...ring true." - Honolulu Star-Bulletin
