First produced at Turtle Shell Theater (New York, NY) as part of the 8-Minute Madness Festival. Prior to that, Pretty was chosen for the Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights Annual Play Reading Festival.
Pretty is also available as part of On the Edge: Challenging Short Plays for Teen Actors, a collection that may be produced in any order (and with any plays left out).
Synopsis
Charley is a bright, eager, awkward, somewhat shy 14-year-old girl, who likes arithmetic and Dancing With the Stars, but more than anything wants to be reunited with—and live with—Cindy, the mother who abandoned her some time ago. But when the two of them meet, it becomes clear that Cindy's problems may be a bit more than Charley's wish can overcome.
