About the Play
Comedy/Fable. 30-40 minutes. 2 females, 3 males, 1-20+ any (6-26+ performers possible). Suitable for high school and older performers, and middle school and older audiences.
The Nose premiered in 2014 as an entry by Hope Christian School in the Eastern New Mexico Theatre Festival. It is part of a larger work: Gogol Project—an adaptation of a trio of Gogol short stories that premiered in 2009 at the Bootleg Theatre in Los Angeles, produced by the Rogue Artists Ensemble.
Synopsis
Politico Konstantin Kovalev's nose has vanished from his face...and shown up in town larger-than-life, wearing his new suit, rescuing lost dogs and becoming more popular than he ever was. Ivan the barber long fantasized about "accidentally" cutting off that very same nose—but now that it actually seems to have happened, poor Ivan is beside himself. And then there's Magda the milliner, intent on fixing up Kovalev with her boring-as-wallpaper daughter. The absurdity of everyday life collides with the absurdity of the stage in this magical comedy about celebrity and ego, breaking the rules, and love.
